Auto-Cannibalism
Auto-Cannibalism is a punk-driven installation by Cléo Luna June and Mike Waddell, rooted in archival posters from Vancouver’s punk scene (1970s–90s). Drawing from interviews with artists, musicians, and venue organizers across generations, the work reinterprets these historical poster designs replacing original event details with raw excerpts from the conversation transcripts. These transcripts reveal enduring themes of capitalism, community, cruelty, culture, and survival amid gentrification and economic pressure. Blurring the line between past and present, the installation reactivates punk’s DIY ethos by bringing its voice back to the streets with over 75 posters printed and distributed across the Downtown Eastside, echoing the way punk once spread: loud, local, and unapologetic.
